NJAA Research: The Radio Meteor Project

Project Overview

The Radio Meteor Counting Astronomy Project (RMCAP) is the logical result of combining the most successful features of prior NJAA research projects, primarily the Sudden Ionospheric Disturbance radio receiver (SID, screen cap above right) and the All-Sky meteor camera (below right). Both of these individual, stand-alone systems have inherent advantages. They operate autonomously to collect data. The data then can be sent to multi-national organizations that collect the information and assimilate it into a global database. In the case of the SID station, the organization is the AAVSO. For the All-Sky camera; the IMO collects the information. Other positive points for these projects are their relatively low cost and that they require minimal maintenance. Computers gather the data and supplementary software does the initial culling, analyzing and sorting of the collected data files.

Presented are pages that describe the various obsticles that arose and solutions that overcame them.
